When Grief Feels Heavy: Finding Support and Peace in Difficult Seasons

Grief has a way of showing up when we least expect it.
It can feel like a quiet undercurrent one day and an overwhelming storm the next. While we may wish we could plan for it, grief doesn’t follow a schedule — and it often feels especially intense during times when the rest of the world is celebrating.

Two moments tend to be the hardest for many people: holidays that hurt and times when we feel isolated in our pain. These are the very places where God longs to meet us with His healing presence.

There’s No Shame in Reaching Out for Help

When we’re grieving, it’s tempting to believe we must be strong on our own. We may even feel embarrassed or ashamed to admit we need support. But the truth is, asking for help isn’t weakness — it’s wisdom.

Card #11 from our Grief and Mourning: A Journey of Healing and Hope Through Scripture deck speaks to this beautifully:

“There’s no shame in counseling or support. God works through counselors, support groups, and trusted mentors to bring healing.”

Proverbs 11:14 reminds us, “Where there is no guidance, the people fall, but in abundance of counselors there is safety.”

God designed us for community. Just as the body of Christ works together to encourage and strengthen one another, so too does His Spirit move through people who have the training and compassion to help us navigate our darkest seasons.

Counseling, support groups, pastoral care, and trusted friends are lifelines that God often uses to bring hope and perspective when our world feels shattered. Reaching out isn’t a sign that your faith is weak — it’s a step of courage and trust that He will meet you through the safe voices He places around you.

If you are grieving, consider this a gentle invitation: you don’t have to walk this journey alone.
